How to Avoid the Stress of Event Planning

Got a big ‘do to plan but can’t be bothered with the stress that comes with it?

Maybe you’re organising your own wedding, but aren’t keen on all the opinions the in-laws want to offer up? Or perhaps you’re planning a surprise 50th, but no one can agree on what food to serve?

Here’s a fool-proof list on how to organise an event and save yourself the stress.

Plan in advance

Yes, it’s obvious. But believe it or not, there are plenty of people who decide on a Saturday morning that that evening is perfect for a family shindig.

For informal events, why not – everyone loves a last minute house party! But for a planned event that requires a venue, a guest list and a caterer, you’re probably not going to end up throwing the finest party ever.

Get everything sorted in advance to save yourself running around like a headless chicken.

Break down tasks

Rather than trying to book everything at once and getting yourself in a spin, sit down and list everything you need to plan.

Then organise these in terms of priority so you can tackle the most important tasks first. This way, you can easily manage the event and break goals down into bitesize chunks that can be dealt with far easier and with much less stress.

Get tech-savvy

If you’re struggling with a Filofax of fabric samples, seating plans and menu choices, then it might be time for you to invest some time finding a bit of tech that might help you.

There are plenty of tech tricks you can use to help you plan your event that can take away needless stress. A few of our personal favourite apps include Evernote, Spaces and Bizzabo.

Stick to one task at a time

The one thing that can hinder a smoothly run event is juggling too many things at once. Rather than being pulled in multiple directions and trying to do a little bit of everything, focus on one task at a time.

Multitasking might seem like you get more done, but in reality you’re doing half a job on each task, when you should really be giving it your full attention.

Ask for help!

If you’re struggling when planning event and can’t seem to get everything sorted, there’s nothing wrong with asking for a bit of help.

Whether it’s from friends, family or even a professional event planning company, don’t wear yourself out over a party – if you do, the chances are you won’t enjoy it nearly as much!
